Captain B. J. Smith, a brief biography

Captain B. J. Smith holds a Bachelor Of Arts Degree in Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Masters Degree in Executive Development from Ball State University. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 1972 and completed a 21 year career as an RF-4 pilot and intelligence officer in the Air Force Reserve and Alabama Air National Guard. Captain Smith completed a 24 year career with Delta Air Lines in 2003 having served as the Director of Pilot Training and Standards; Chief Pilot-New York Shuttle; Chief Pilot Delta Express-Orlando; System Manager-Fleet Programs; and Program Manager-B737-300/800. After retiring from Delta, Captain Smith was part of a small team that built and certified Cargo360, a FAR Part 121 All-Cargo B747 airline based in Seattle, Washington. He served as Cargo360’s President and Chief Operating Officer until joining the faculty at Jacksonville University (JU) in the fall of 2007. While at JU, Captain Smith remained an active consultant working in the areas of airport management, airline management, safety and operational management system design, error management, and pilot training/standardization. In April of 2010, Captain Smith became the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BRZ, Inc., an Atlanta, Georgia based computer software company providing data collection, analysis, and reporting software to organization conducting high risk or demanding operations. Captain Smith has over 12,500 hours of flight time in a variety of military and civilian aircraft, and is type rated in the CE500, DC-9, B-737, B-727, and the B-757/767.
